Commented Translation of Technical Text

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na překlad učebního textu z oblasti elektrotechniky. Práce má za cíl přeložit a analyzovat odborný učební text a je rozdělena na tři hlavní části. V teoretické části je uvedena zejména charakteristika odborného a učebního stylu, typy překladatelských postupů, překladatelské transformace a funkční perspektiva větná. Praktická část předkládá anglický překlad úryvku ze skript a analytická část má za cíl analyzovat problémy, které se vyskytly při překladu a zhodnotit charakteristické znaky odborného učebního stylu založené na analýze tohoto překladu.

Commented translation of a text on science and technology

Cílem této bakalářské práce je překlad technického textu z českého jazyka do anglického a okomentovat aspekty překladu a problémy s tím spojené. Vybraný text jsou elektronická skripta, sdílená na e-learningu a používána Vysokým Učením Technickým v Brně výhradně pro výukové účely v oboru mikroelektrotechnika. Teoretická část uvádí teorii překladu, její procedury, postupy a typy. Také obsahuje popis funkčních stylů, obzvláště stylu odborného. Praktická část je reprezentována překladem prvních dvou kapitol – Úvodem a technologií CMOS. Závěrečná – analytická část obsahuje komentáře různých problémů z odlišných lingvistických hledisek.

Linguistic aspects of translating informal/slang expressions in American TV series subtitles

The present study treats the problem of translating American slang and informal vocabulary into Czech. Its aim is to explain why this kind of vocabulary can be difficult to translate and to compare two different approaches to the task. It works with material excerpted from the subtitles of an American TV series, the official and the unofficial version of its translation. The experimental part brings information on the incidence of different types of mistakes and it identifies the main tendencies of the translators in dealing with various problems. The final part characterizes the strategies of individual translators, commenting on their strong and weak points.

Anotated translation: José Luis Díaz: "CIENCIA Y ARTE: LA INTELIGENCIA DE LAS MUSAS"

This bachelor's thesis consists of two main parts. The first part is constituted by the translation from Spanish to Czech of the selected essays written by the Mexican author José Luis Díaz and published in his book El ábaco, la lira y la rosa: las regiones del conocimiento, specifically in the sixth chapter named CIENCIA Y ARTE: LA INTELIGENCIA DE LAS MUSAS. The second part consists of the translation annotation, which is comprised of the translation analysis of the source text, the characterisation of the applied translation procedures, and the description of the specific problems arisen during the translation process, including the explanation of the chosen solutions. The bachelor thesis consists of two main parts. The first part contains a Czech translation of selected chapters from a book by the French journalist Pierre Laffont concerning the colonial history of French Algeria, called L'Algérie des Français. The second part is dedicated to an analysis of the source text, partly based on Christiane Nord's model, as well as to the presentation of the translation method, the typology of translation problems and their concrete solutions.

The commentary analyses the translated text and afterwards it presents the method of translation and also the translation procedures.
